The front and side of this town garden were untidy and dull. Although this was a good-sized area and should have been sunny, overgrown shrubs had invaded, making it a shady no-go spot. Our brief was to create a private space where our clients could relax and enjoy the sunshine, alone or among friends, surrounded by beautifully planted beds. An attractive fence was erected for privacy and to support fragrant climbers. Large trellises on the house walls opposite the fence allowed us to plant more climbers to ensure that those sitting in the garden were surrounded by greenery and blossom. We created a decking, with a step down onto a large stone circle so that there was ample space for our clients and guests. The raised beds surrounding the seating areas, with their abundance of colour, texture and fragrance, were designed to delight – but also to provide extra space to sit for a moment whilst enjoying the plants close-up with a glass of wine.
