The exotic area we had created at the bottom of his back garden really delighted our client. Consequently, he asked us to transform another area that had seen better days, closer to the house. We proposed a formal bed with a touch of topiary, mirroring the gravel and reclaimed bricks used in the exotic area. This gave a clue to what lay beyond and linked the two ends of the garden. The area was in dappled shade and therefore perfect for box topiary. A beautiful standard (also mirroring a similar one in the exotic garden) provides year-long interest with abundant blossom in early summer, followed by dark berries. The golden box circle contrasts beautifully with the brickwork, the darker box pyramids and the colours of the blossom around. Arches each side of the bed invite visitors forward to eventually discover the pergola, in similar style, in the exotic area beyond.
